In 2009, a then 18-year-old Jordi Raventós embarked on a remarkable journey: resurrecting his family’s long-neglected farm. He started from scratch, planting the vineyard and patiently nurturing it for years before finally crafting and selling his wine. Jordi’s mission? To create distinctive wines that speak of the terroir, wines born from traditional varieties, many teetering on the brink of extinction. Think Malvasia Vermella de Sitges, Parent, Vinyater, Llimonero, and other forgotten gems.

The name Clos dels Guarans pays homage to the Guarà, the Catalan donkey, a pivotal figure in the evolution of European agriculture. The Guarà’s story mirrors that of Jordi’s cherished grape varieties: a historically revered breed now facing extinction. Beyond the vineyards, Clos dels Guarans actively participates in the preservation and repopulation of these noble animals through their membership in AFRAC.

Jordi’s approach to farming is as unique as his wines. He cultivates his vineyards organically, relying on a team of donkeys, sheep, and honeybees to complement the work of human hands. The cellar follows the same natural philosophy, employing spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and only a minimal addition of sulphur at bottling. “The only way to make soulful wines,” Jordi insists, “is to respect the land and work it with your own hands.” It’s a philosophy that resonates deeply with those who appreciate wines with character and a story to tell.
