Bodegas Terra D’Art is a family-owned organic winery in the picturesque Valle de Ahillas, founded by husband and wife, Juan José Martínez Gordo and Amparo Palmero Ricarte. Their son, Juan José Martínez Palmero, is the head winemaker. Starting in 2003 in their small garage at home, they produced just 200 bottles of white wine, made from the local Merseguera grape variety, using the cold store in the family delicatessen to cool the wines!
Each year, they increased their production, adding some reds and now make over 22,000 bottles of five different wines. For the whites, they continue to only use low yields of 80 year-old Merseguera grapes, grown at 850-1,150m altitude in the small mountain valley surrounded by pine forests and wild meadows. For the reds, they work with many different native Spanish grapes, including Bobal, Prieto Picudo and Mencía.
Their philosophy is to grow grapes and make wine using sustainable, organic and biodynamic practices.
