Mariano de Frutos always dreamt of producing his own wine.  So, in 1996, he planted 3.5 hectares of Tempranillo in his family ancestors’ vineyard, around 900 metres above sea level.  Eight years later, Bodegas de Frutos Marin was born and the first wines produced.

Today,  the winery is managed by Elisa de Frutos, Mariano’s granddaughter and her husband, Rubén Salamanca.  They have 5.5 hectares of vineyards near the village of Cuellar, 60 km north of Segovia.  All viticultural practices are carried out according to organic principles and many of the wines are natural/minimal intervention.

Elisa and Ruben produce terroir-expressive wines using different techniques, including fermentation in old barriques and tinajas, traditional Spanish clay pots, or oxidative ageing in demijohns.  All the wines contain minimum quantities of added sulphites and, since 2020, they have been working the vineyards using biodynamic preparations.

Bodega Malaparte has recently been accepted into the Triple A movement (Agriculturalists, Artisans, Artists), formed by natural wine producers from many European countries.  The winery is also are part of the Raw Wine community.
