Coqué Ruz Is a self-described city girl with no family winemaking tradition, but with a love of wine inherited from her father.  After 15 years’ experience as a sommelier, winemaker and working for other Valencian wineries, she still felt that she wanted to truly express herself in the wine world.  So in 2009, she took up the opportunity to start her own project, launching Celler Cataruz, with help and guidance from Diego Fernández Pons, her former oenologist at Venta del Moro.  Despite limited financial resources, he gave her the space to produce her own wines in his winery in Casas del Rey.

Celler Cataruz is focussed on expressing indigenous and international grape varieties grown on two different terroirs.  The white wines are made from grapes grown in the south of Valencia in a Mediterranean climate.  The reds use grapes grown in an Atlantic climate, 800 metres above sea level in Utiel, north of Valencia.  Coqué manages the vineyards naturally without pesticides and takes pride in combining the traditions of local winegrowers with a modern and enthusiastic approach.
