Vinos Del Viento (Wines of the Wind) produce limited production wines made from grapes grown in high-altitude, old-vine, dry-farmed vineyards.  The name comes from the local Cariñena winds that can reach speeds of 50 kmh.

Winemaker and ‘Vine Hunter’ Michael Cooper Dip (WSET) grew up in Santa Barbara, California with a love of wine, but with no family history in the industry.  Having moved to Spain in 2002 and with experience of Spanish wine writing, he decided to grow vines himself.  He began making wine seven years later, working in several Aragonese wine regions, including Campo de Borja, Somontano, Calatayud and especially Cariñena, located near his wife Rosario’s home city of Zaragoza, where they live.  This area is rich in old vines, particularly Garnacha Tinta.

For over ten years now, Michael’s main work as a vigneron has been in Aguarón, where he grows Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Tinta, Chardonnay and Cariñena.  His ‘Special Selection Cariñena’ wine, one of the first Cariñena monovarietals made commercially in the area and launched in 2016, comes from his own two-hectare vineyard of 3,000 vines.

At Vinos del Viento, they do not use pesticides and their lightweight bottles are all made locally from recycled materials
